Native to Argentina and Bolivia, Blue Jacaranda is an extremely attractive tree with lacy bright green leaves and trumpet-shaped lavender-blue flowers. It is a deciduous tree that grows up to 50 feet tall in tropical and subtropical climates but also does exceptionally well as a houseplant in colder climates. It puts on a spectacular flowering display in spring to summer when the 2" blue-purple flowers appear in large panicles and literally cover the tree. With its large fern-like leaves, the tree itself is very attractive even when not in bloom. Its leaves resemble those of mimosa and is sometimes commonly called "fern tree". These also make excellent potted patio plants or even grow as unique bonsai specimens. Easily propagated from seed and relatively fast growing.
