This poppy is a stunning Annual poppy that can also be grown as a biennial. The picture above is taken from one I have grown from seed last year. If grown from seed one year it will over winter and spring to life early the next year and will produce masses of stunning blue flowers 2-3" across and will then die after flowering. It produces masses of seed and will then return as an annual.

Avoid exposing this Meconopsis to direct solar rays, growing it in a shady spot. It will grow to a height of 12 "to 24" and produce masses of blue flowers with white centres. This one can stay in the garden overwinter and will survive temperatures below freezing.

It is regarded as one of the easiest Himalayan Blue poppies to grow from seed and requires no special treatment of the seed prior to sowing. It is known as 'horridula' probably due to its seed pods prior to opening that are covered in spikes.
